- Thomas enlisted with older brother Pinkney in Co. F, 56th Regt. Thomas was a good soldier and died of fever during the siege of Petersburg.

Enlisted in the "Cleveland Riflemen", Co. F of the 56th Regiment NC Troops on May 10, 1862 at the age of 32. Reported sick in hospital at Goldsboro in September-October, 1862. Died in hospital at Richmond, Va. September 1, 1864 of chronic diarrhea.
Thomas and Mary can be found in the 1850 Cleveland County census living beside his brother Phillip.
Sarah Barnett (57) is listed living with Thomas and Mary in the 1860 Cleveland Co. census, Sarah C. Barnett (24) is also living in the same house. Apparently Mary's mother and sister.
