Jefferson D. Scoggins is listed as Jeff in the 1880 Cleveland County census and living with his half sister Mrs. O. C. (Colis) White in #7 township. Family members say Jeff died while in the Cleveland County home and the county buried him. Jeff was "a bad apple", he was reported to be very abusive and was shot by Ruffin Powell (a son-in-law) at one point. Jeff and Zulie eventually moved to Hawkinsville, Ga where Zulie died and is buried. Jeff returnded to Cleveland County and is reportedly buried at Sandy Plains Baptist Church in an unmarked grave.
Jefferson married Zulie Lee Lovelace on 31 Jan 1884. Zulie died about 1922 in Hawkinsville, Pulaski Co. Georgia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

His first wife is listed as Sally Scoggin (AFN FSQZ-K9). The submitter for the second listing is a Clifford E. Winkler, #1 Bear Lake Estates, 300 Luman Rd., Phoenix, OR 97535.

Melena is listed in the 1880 census as Melinda. John Giles Greene and Charlotte (Melena's daughter) are listed as living in the same house. Jackson Scoggins is not listed. Melena is also listed as Selena in places such as the marriage certificate.
