Richard was the son of either Georg or Phillip Philbeck who were German immigrant brothers that moved here with their father, Wilhelm Ernst Felbeck about 1771 just prior to the Revolutionary War.

In the 1860 census Richard is listed as a farmer.

Richard's first wife was Elizabeth Womack; after her death he married Elizabeth's niece (Sarah Womack Davis's daughter) Nancy Davis.

Richard and Elizabeth had five children: Mary L., Sinah Frances, John Phillip, Anna E., and William A. (John Phillip died January 27, 1919)
William A. (born Jan 29, 1841; died Nov 16, 1929) married his first cousin Martha "Matt" Lucinda Davis (b. March 5, 1845; d. Jan 23, 1926) the daughter of Lucinda Womack and George Davis, Sr. (George is the son of Simon Davis and probably the nephew of Phillip Davis)

Richard and Nancy also had five children; Thomas Fernilson, Sarah Womack, Delphia S., James Pinkney, and Daniel Johnson.

John Davis served as bondsman for the marriage of Elizabeth to Richard. John Davis is the son of Simon Davis and brother to George Davis, Sr. Elizabeth is buried in the Hopewell Methodist Church Cemetery located in Hollis.

Notes:

Ancestral Files from the LDS Family history center spells the last name Wormack, and Fannie's tombstone is spelled the same. The World Family Tree says Anderson is buried in Columbia, SC. This is probably one of the descendant Andersons.

Records of William Coppedge indicate that Anderson's grave was found on his original land grant in Rutherford Co. with inscription, "In memory of Anderson Womack who died September 30, 1848. Aged 82 years, 11 months, 11 days. "

Anderson married Frances "Fannie" Dobbins about 1785 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. Frances (daughter of William Dobbins and Susanna Collins) was born about 1772 in York, South Carolina; died about 1863 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Frances is the sister of Rev. Drury Dobbins (Drury Dobbins Baptist Church). She is living with son Willis in the 1860 Rutherford County census and with Levi Burns in the 1870 Rutherford County census.

Wilhelm Ernst was from Felback, Germany. He left there and went to Scotland where he married and had 5 sons (Johan, George, Peter, William, Phillip). Johan (John) left Scotland with the Goss family (cobblers by trade)on the British ship "Good Intent", arrived in America October 23, 1754. John went to the colony of South Carolina. Wilhelm and Maria and 4 remaining sons followed him in October 1771 on the brigantine, "Recovery". They declared their qualification oath in Philadelphia on Oct. 31,1771. Then they followed John. According to E. Hobart Peters (Head of Research, Raleigh, NC, 1965), much of the early tendency to vary the name came from "carelessness on the part of the clerks, poor hearing, etc." From this sprang a variety of misspellings probably unmatched with any other name. In 1797 we find the name spelled "Filpeck" and "Philpeck." Wilhelm Ernst, in bowing to English phonetic pronunciations, not only changed his given names to William and Ernest, but changed his surname to "Felback," which the closest the American tongue could come to the true pronunciation. We also find that his son, William, Jr., was commonly known as William Felpick. As late as 1850, both William and George had settled on the form "Philpeck," which was the commonly used form in the Piedmont region of NC. John, son of William, used "Philbeck" around 1825 and is still used today in that region.

Wilhelm married Maria Elizabeth Hofmann. Maria was born about 1745 in Scottland; died in 1805 in Union County, South Carolina. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Moved to Rowan County (later Burke County) in 1771. Built a fort called Womack Fort in Burke Co.

Thomas married Louvisa Rice in 1766 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. Louvisa (daughter of Esq. John Rice and Mary Finney) was born before 1755 in Ireland; died after 1810 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
