Elizabeth Philbeck and her husband Ansalem Green were living in Tennessee during the 1830's before coming to Missouri and settling in St. Francois County. There is a marriage record for Ansalem Green to Mary Morgan on 19 February 1869 in Montgomery County, Illinois. In the 1870 census for Montgomery county Ansalem's son, Marvel Green, is living in Bear Creek Township. Ansalem died in 1876 in Illinois.

    Notes:

Microfilmed records of Sandy Run Baptist Church: "Shadrach Green & his wife Martha Green joined by letter" May, 1830 church minutes Any relationship between Shadrack Sr. (b.~1747) and Shadrack Jr. (b.~1766) is at this point still circumstantial. There are no deeds which transfer land between them and refer to Shadrack Jr as "my son" or any other such smoking gun. A relationship can safely be assumed based on the fact that Shadrack Jr was living in Shadrack Sr's house prior to his marriage, he homesteaded on adjacent property to Shadrack Sr. and after Shadrack Sr's death, he had Sr's son "Shady" living with him until he got on his own two feet.

Shadrack Green's Will, dated March 17th, 1846, is recorded in the Cleveland County Will Book A, Page 55. In his will, he made bequests to his heirs as follows: "To my beloved son, Joseph Green, thirty dollars; To my grandson, William M. Wilson, thirty dollars, to make them equal with Cornelius Green, and Marvel Green and Abner Green, which has all ready had that much; also, John Green to have ten dollars; also that Enoch Green to have ten dollars; also Robert Green, son of Elijah Green, ten dollars; also my son Anselom Green ten dollars; also Shadrack Burns, son of James Burns, ten dollars; also Abner J. Dycus, son of Elijah Dycus, ten dollars; Landrum Bandy, son of William Bandy, ten dollars; also Rachel Oens, five dollars. (My Note: meant OWENS) Then if there be any more that it be equally divided between all my children. I appoint W. H. McKinney and Elijah Dycus my Executors to this my last will and testament."

    Buried:
in the vicinity of the present Crawley Gin in upper Cleveland County.

Shadrack married Martha (Patsy) Jones on 20 Dec 1792. Martha (daughter of John Jones and Elizabeth Pettypool) was born on 26 May 1773 in North Carolina; died before 1846 in North Carolina. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 5.  Martha (Patsy) Jones was born on 26 May 1773 in North Carolina (daughter of John Jones and Elizabeth Pettypool); died before 1846 in North Carolina.

    Notes:

The 250 acres that Shadrack Green Jr. (b.~1766) sold to Asa Loveless in May of 1834 were a combined plot of 50 acres deeded to Shadrack by the state in 1798 for 25 shillings and 200 he had purchased from John Jones in 1799 for 100 pounds NC state currency. There is no marriage bond issued for the Green/Jones marriage, but at the time those were not needed if both sides were confident that the marriage would in fact occur. As the Green/Jones marriage seems to have taken place in the 1799-1801 period the 1799 land sale probably stood in the place of a marriage bond.

  5. 12.  Wilhelm Ernst Felbach was born in 1728 in Germany; died in 1801 in Union County, South Carolina.

    Notes:

Wilhelm Ernst was from Felback, Germany. He left there and went to Scotland where he married and had 5 sons (Johan, George, Peter, William, Phillip). Johan (John) left Scotland with the Goss family (cobblers by trade)on the British ship "Good Intent", arrived in America October 23, 1754. John went to the colony of South Carolina. Wilhelm and Maria and 4 remaining sons followed him in October 1771 on the brigantine, "Recovery". They declared their qualification oath in Philadelphia on Oct. 31,1771. Then they followed John. According to E. Hobart Peters (Head of Research, Raleigh, NC, 1965), much of the early tendency to vary the name came from "carelessness on the part of the clerks, poor hearing, etc." From this sprang a variety of misspellings probably unmatched with any other name. In 1797 we find the name spelled "Filpeck" and "Philpeck." Wilhelm Ernst, in bowing to English phonetic pronunciations, not only changed his given names to William and Ernest, but changed his surname to "Felback," which the closest the American tongue could come to the true pronunciation. We also find that his son, William, Jr., was commonly known as William Felpick. As late as 1850, both William and George had settled on the form "Philpeck," which was the commonly used form in the Piedmont region of NC. John, son of William, used "Philbeck" around 1825 and is still used today in that region.
