    Notes:

    Daniel Poston was born in the Poston log house north of Shelby. He remained a bachelor and helped care for his mother until age 48. He then married Margaret, aged 18. Her brother had earlier married Daniel's sister, Rachel. Monroe and Rachel later became owners of the Poston homeplace Daniel was a millwright, mechanic, farmer, and at one time owned a cotton gin. Although he suffered a grea loss through investment in Confederate bonds, he was able to leave his young wife a comfortable estate. In his will he instructed his wife to "school the children as best she could" and contrary to most testators, he left provision for her to inherit one-fourth of his estate even if she remarried.

    Daniel married Margaret Ann Weathers in Jun 1870 in Cleveland County, North Carolina. Margaret (daughter of Jenkins Devaney Weathers and Eunice Ann Bailey) was born on 25 Feb 1853 in Cleveland County, North Carolina; died on 9 Jun 1924 in Cleveland County, North Carolina.
